CFSC: Certified Functional Strength Coach Certification
Congratulations to Bristol-Warrens Nick Medeiros, Personal Trainer & William Campion, DPT!
The CFSC is a certification and product based off the training philosophies and methods utilized at Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning Facilities (MBSC). MBSC was created in 1996 and is now nationally recognized and considered one of the top gyms in the United States. Boyle is one of the most well known individuals in the strength and conditioning community and considered to be one of the foremost experts in this area.
The certification, compromised of written and practical exams, is offered to all individuals interested in furthering their knowledge in strength and conditioning. What separates this course from other certifications is the practical component. It allows the coaches to demonstrate the applications they have learned and to apply it to athletes on site with feedback from the CFSC instructors. MBSC and the CFSC crew have created a baseline of “basic movement patterns” that a large majority of people should be able to perform. This baseline easily allows coaches to modify training quickly during sessions according to the individuals strengths and weaknesses. It also educates coaches on methods to breakdown movement patterns based on fatigue. These adjustments are made through progression, regression and/or lateralization of the movement and allow for optimal training in a safe environment.
